Wellington (Camp)

Kia ora. On Monday the 11 of November we went to Wellington for camp. We went to Wellington to learn more about NZ and to have fun. On our first day exploring wellington we went to Te papa and the zoo. Te papa was fun and interesting and the zoo was cool and fun. On Wednesday we went to Parliament. We met our tour guard named Erin and she took us into the mini debating chamber to talk about what goes on. A few minutes after that we went to walk to the otherside of Parliament which was called Parliament House. We went allowed to take photos inside of Parliament for unknown reasons. After we looked around in the Parliament house we went to go have a look in the Real Debating Chamber were all the action goes on. We asked lots of questions about what goes on in the Debating Chamber. One thing Erin told us about the debating Chamber is that Queen Elizabeth is not allowed passed the red carpet because they don’t want her to interfere with the law making. A hour later we crossed the road to The National Library to go have a look at the Original signing of The Treaty of Waitangi. But the original was getting its annual check. Every month the original suffragette form gets a rolling as it is extremely long. This way everyone who signed the paper gets a chance to be seen. After we had a rest and had lunch we went to go catch the cable cars to the cable car museum. At the cable car museum we did some fun activities one of them was making your own badge with a cable car on it. And the last one was making a machine that runs the cable car. After we did that it was time to go back to the marae. The next day was Thursday. On Thursday We went back down to the National library to see the real Treaty of Waitangi. we weren’t able to see the real Treaty on wednesday but we got to see it on Thursday. About 30 minutes later we went to the westpac stadium. We meet a man called Dave he showed us around the westpac stadium the changing rooms and the field but we weren’t allowed to go on to the field. The next activity we did was the weta workshop we had some people show us around and talk to us about some of the statues and characters. We learnt a lot about how to make things look hervey and real. We even got to look at some amazing swords and fell some of the examples of the characters they were creating. On our last activity we went to capital e. Capital e is a place where you can go to film a movie or a tv show. We chose to film a tv show. Our tv show was called eye on the hive it was about the primenaster banding the internet. We all got rolls to play or be something. After all of that it was time to go back to the marae to get ready to have dinner and go to zealandia. Unfortunately we weren't able to see kiwi but we did hear them and we saw three or two Tuatara.

(Gail) Energize healthy eat talk

This week at Paihia school a lady named Whaea Gina came to talk to us about the four healthy food groups. The first food group she talked about was dairy. Dairy products are like cheese and cream. Dairy helps you get the calcium that your bones need to grow big and strong. If you are lactose intolerant stores sell other milk like almond that does not contain cow milk . The next food group she talked about was fruits and veggies. Fruits and veggies help you stay strong because they contain vitamins and minerals that help your skin stay clean and also help you grow big and strong. The third food group she talked about was protein. Meat is high source of protein that is why meat is healthy. Some meat are unhealthy that is why more people are resorting to becoming vegans. The last food group we got to hear about was grain food that some people called brain food. Brain food includes wheat like weetbix and bread. Grain food is healthy for you because they contain high sources of fibre B, vitamins and minerals. Grains also helps to reduce your blood cholesterols which gives you a lower risk of having a heart attack. I could really use a lot of the information we learnt to help eat better and help other kids to eat healthier and exercise.

The best work we've ever done.

Kia ora. This week at Paihia School we had a ki o rahi tournament for the year 5’s, 6’s, 7’s and 8’s. This years ki o rahi tournament was held at Simpson park in Moerewa. There was 16 teams ready to play ki o rahi including Paihia School. The first School we played against was Taipa School and our School lost to them. Our school won two games and lost two games. Finally it was time to get ready to see what teams are going on to the the semi finals. Our school made it to the semi finals. The team that we were playing for the semi finals was Taumarere we lost by ten points. What we could do better next time is spread out and share the ball. What we did good was playing as a team and working hard.

Ki-o-rahi tournament

Kia ora bloggers. On the 30th of October we had our Ki-o-rahi tournament. There was a year 5 and 6 team and a year 7 and 8 team. We travelled from Paihia to Morewa. The first game the year 5 and 6’s had lost 21-1 but only because they were playing a year 7 and 8 Ki-o-rahi team. On their second game they won 10-1. The third game they lost again. What they could of worked on is to spread out because they kept on following where the ball went and who it went to. Another reason why they needed to spread out is because when they all gathered up in one spot and the other team had the ball they would always give it to other players that weren’t surrounded with the other team. When they did that they would get a lot of points. Now here is the year 7 and 8 Ki-o-rahi tournament. The first game the year 7 and 8’s lost 6 - 3. The second and third game the year 7 and 8’s won 8 - 0 and 9 - 3. After that game they were finished the first tournament. Whaea K.C said that they would go straight through to the semi finals because they didn’t have enough time for the quarter finals. The year 7 and 8 Ki-o-rahi team made it into the semi finals and were so proud. Unfortunately they lost 13 - 6 but they had fun and tried their best.

Mind Blowing Facts About Swim Safe

Good morning/afternoon/evening bloggers. Last Thursday Tracy came into Te Ngahere and taught us about swim safe. We were learning ways to stay safe in the ocean and on boats. There are five things you need to know how to stay safe on a boat. The first thing you need to know is to put your safety first. The first step is really important to know. The second step to staying safe on a boat is to check the weather. The third is to tell someone where you are going and what time you will be back. The people you should tell are The Coastguard. The fourth thing is to take a life jacket and make sure you are wearing it at all times. If you are not wearing it on the boat you will have to make a lot of decisions, you will need to figure out what one fits you and other things like remembering where you put them. The fifth and final step is to take a waterproof phone so you are in contact with The Coastguard and others that can call someone for help if something bad happens. What I learnt is that it is important to wear life jackets at all possible times. I also learnt that Coastguards are really helpful but if you wanted to know you have to pay the cost guards. If you do not know what channel they are on they are on channel 16 and Russell Radio is channel 3. Thanks for reading.
Bye.

Math game

On Monday Te Ngahere have been learning how to play matching the cards. The first thing we had to do was find a group of four, then you had to wait until Whaea Chrissy said we could go. We had to notice what cards would make a group of four.

The challenging part was not being able to talk. You are also not allowed to point to what card you need. On the cards there are dots, fractions, circles and blocks that are shaded to the right fraction. My challenge was not being able to talk and show them what card I wanted. The point of the game is match the right cards. What I did well was I tried and I made a set of four.

What I could do better next time is trying not to talk all the time.

STEAM challenge.

Kia ora, in Te Ngahere we did a STEAM challenge it was super fun and a little bit challenging we got into groups of 3 or 2. We only had two sheets of newspaper and 30 centimeters of cellotape. I learnt that your base for the tower has to be big. My group was Jorjah and Isabella-paige. In our group we worked well together and we each got a turn to work on the tower. What I did well was work as a team member and collaborate as a team and everyone had an idea and we were having fun as well working.

What I could do better is plan more and think of more ideas.I think if we would have thought a bit more than just building it straight away. What could have worked better?

Keep New Zealand beautiful week

Kia ora bloggers. A few weeks ago Te Ngahere had a beach clean up to celebrate keep New Zealand beautiful week. This was happening in most New Zealand schools. When we arrived at the beach we were able to split into groups of our choice. These were our rubbish picking groups. Some groups went up on the grass by the road and some went on the beach. We found some really interesting things while cleaning the beach and roadside for rubbish. What was really disappointing was that adults who smoke were throwing cigarette butts a few steps away from the nearest rubbish bin. It goes to show that people have no disregard for the earth. Here a photo from the beach clean up:

Healthy and Unhealthy foods/drinks

This term Te Ngahere have been going to energise every second Tuesday with our health teacher, Whaea Gina. We would go to the whare to have sessions about healthy eating and drinking. Whaea Gina is apart of a group called the energise program. This program helps young kids live a healthier and happier life. We all learnt quite a lot about what foods are healthy for us and what foods aren’t. We had about four of them based off our hearts, drinks/sugar, takeaways, and hummus. During all of these session Whaea Gina would show us examples of what she was talking about using photos or real types of healthy or unhealthy foods or drinks. For our first session she showed us a photo of a healthy heart and a unhealthy heart with too much fat on it and explained to us why it had too much fat. Then in our second session, she grabbed out three signs that said Everyday, sometimes, and occasionally and put certain drinks and food in either category. On our third session we did it about takeaways and what take out foods were good to eat or not. Not many students were here for the third session about hummus because our Kapa Haka rehearsals was taking place in Kaikohe for the roopu. After learning all about this we will use this knowledge now and in the future to help others. In your opinion, what did you find interesting about about what we learnt over the term?
Here is Jack & Mikaire's DLO about energize

Cross Country

Kia ora bloggers, On Friday the 30th of August Paihia School went to Bledisloe Domain to do our school cross country. We were learning to give something a try even if you don’t like it because some people like maths and reading and some people like sports. We set out around 10:55. When we reached Bledisloe Domain we set out our tarpaulin. Our PTA , (PTA meaning parent-teacher association) were cooking us some kai for after our races. The races started not long after we had arrived at the Domain. Whaea Becks and Mrs Williams assigned marshals , (marshals are people that stand on the sideline to encourage and show the teina what direction to go in) , we went in age groups. Whatever age you were on that day was the race that you were going to run in. We started off with our 5 year olds working our way up to our 13 year olds. Everybody gave the race a great try. We are so proud of all the students that attend Paihia School.

Energize

Today Whaea Gina came to Paihia School to teach us about healthy and unhealthy eating. We learnt that there are many different healthy food categories like meat and meat alternatives, milk and milk products, grain foods and vegetables and fruit. We learnt that even if you are a vegetarian you need meat alternative because of the protein in it and they have a good source of iron. Also the meat has to be the same size of your palm not including your fingers. We learnt that it is good to have a healthy diet. Whaea Gina also told us not to bring to many packaged things in our lunch box.

Te Ngahere Science Fair

Last week on Friday, Te Ngahere held our first ever science fair in the whare. For about 8-9 weeks we had been gathering information, testing, and experimenting. While doing that we had to choose a real life problem and experiment it. The judges for the science fair were Mrs Lindsay and Danielle Archer, our very own marine biologist. There were projects like Water quality, Salt ice vs Homemade salt ice, Rainbow smile, and many more. During assembly (near the end of the day) Mrs Lindsay and Danielle presented the certificates for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and highly recommended. Also, one of Mrs Lindsay’s principals awards were given to the students of Te Ngahere for persevering and producing outstanding science fair projects. Overall we really enjoyed sharing our projects with the school, whanau, and members of the public. We hope that we get this opportunity next year.

Bye Jess

On Friday the 26th of July a special student of Te Ngahere sadly left our school. We are all going to miss her beautiful smile, wonderful personality, and most of all, her hugs and high fives she used to greet us with every single morning. She was a very talented person using her talking device to communicate with others. This helped her to make friends and for people to understand her like I do.

The Ned show

On Thursday 1st August 2019 Paihia School we had a visit from a lady called Nicole she is a part of the Ned show. She came into show us how we can find our mindset. She used Ned’s name as an example. Ned’s name stand for Never give up, Encourage others and do your best. Ned went on this adventure first he flew on a hot air balloon to Mt Everest the reason he went Mt Everest was because, that is the tallest mountain in the world so in order to get to the top he had to never give up. Ned meet a yetty called Yet and just as Ned went to give up Yet said “you haven’t accomplish this “yet”. Meaning don’t quit you will get it but it just hasn't happened “yet” the key word in that riddle was yet.

Then Ned  got another envelope and that one said for him to jump on a zipline to a tropical island where he met a lady captain. She sent him on an adventure through the jungle across the alligators to find an X marked in the sands so Ned dug at the x and he found a treasure box with rocks. Ned was upset because he did all that to find rocks but the lady captain said that Ned it only looks like a rock but it has been covered by non believing, giving up and not trying but inside there is something so beautiful. The captain pulled out the gem.
His last envelope said “ You will go in a flying saucer. He got lifted up in the air and he meet these aliens their rocket ship was breaking. Ned said” this looks like a giant brain” and the alien replied “ I know” and the saucer broke some more. Ned said “ brain run on learning” can you guess what the alien said “ I know”. Then Ned said “brain run on learning fuel” no surprise the alien said I know”. Wait said Ned everytime you say I know it breaks more can I see you engine room. In the engine room all the wires were unhooked. There your problem said Ned they are not connected. Ha with saying I know break things so I am not learning. So if I get rid of I know then I can grow.

Ned after that day decided to Never give up when things are hard, Encourage other because you will give them courage and Don’t say I know because you won’t grow in learning.Ned Got brought back to our school and he explain how he found his mindset and how we can use those steps. Nicole thank you for coming to our school and talking to us about how we can find our mindset. We really enjoyed learning that we can get brain freeze in learning because we are afraid of what we can’t do. What we think we could do better next time is be brave and answer some of the question. Blog you later

Rippa Rugby

Kia ora bloggers, this week we went to Rippa Rugby at Hikurangi. Our
host was Haley Jane. They thought that we would not be at the semi
finals because we are the Underdogs. We got called the Underdogs
because we were doing no training at school. We won our first 3
games but then we tied with Welsford but then we lost to them.
When we played Welsford, we tried our best but we lost by one try!
When Haley Jane wrote the score down we ended up with more
points that Welsford. When we got into the real semi finals we got
pulled out because we got given some bonus points and that was
against the rules. Our whole team was gutted that we did not get
to go to Wellington, but we can always try again.

Blog ya later.

Matariki

Last week on Thursday, Paihia School celebrated our annual Matariki day. Myself and three other students got chosen to come to school early in the morning and cook breakfast. Over 70 people came back from looking at the stars and ate a scrumptious meal that included bacon, eggs, baked beans and cold toast. After that we continued school as normal until the middle block and we finished the rest of the Kids Can Day which was run by the PAL Leaders.

Kids Can Funday

On the 14th of June Paihia School had a Kids Can Funday. Kids Can donate clothes and give us food for free. Mrs Williams and Whaea Gina (our fitness tutors), chose 24 PAL leaders to hold 12 events that happened on the day. They held some pretty cool games like Stuck in the mud, Target Shoot, Big Ball Soccer, Noodle Hockey and more exciting games. It was a really fun day and we can’t wait to hold it tomorrow during Matariki.

Rippa Rugby

On June the 4th the year 5 and 6’s went to rippa rugby, at Kaikohe. We competed against a lot
of teams. The year 5 and 6’s got split up into even teams,  and then went off to do a lot of warm
ups for the big day. When we went to play the games we went by the teachers, one of the teams went with Mr Ngata and the other team went with Matua Pep. Both teams went to different fields. One team played five games and the other team played six games. One of the teams found it hard to win these games because they were playing some hard people. One of the teams won all of their games and the other team sadly lost most of their games. We had a giant feed then we went back to school for around 15 minutes. Then the bell rang and then the day was over.

Maromaku Day

Last term 20th of June a few students got selected to represent Paihia School at the Maromaku sports day. Some students played netball and some students played rugby. The day was very hot while people were playing their games. One of the netball courts was on the concrete the the other ones was on the field. Some of the school that were there that I know was Karatu, Kawakawa, Paihia, Opua, Whananaki, Waikare and Maromaku. There was a food store held by Maromaku, there was drinks, baking, ice block and sausages sizzle. Everyone had a fantastic day, and we can't wait to play again next year.

Bay Bush Action

At Paihia School we had some interesting people from a trust named the Bay Bush Action. There was a lady called Stella. She told us some very cool and sad stuff about trees, birds and pests. She brought some pests like ferrets, possums, rats, stoats and told us some special things about why they came to New Zealand and why they all need separate traps. Did you know that the reason the stoats came to New Zealand is because there were so many rabbits running around that they had to bring in stoats to kill them all but the stoats ate the birds eggs because they were a easy target. Ok Thank you bye.

Open Day

Last Friday at Paihia School we had our open day. The open day was a chance for your parents come to school whenever they liked and see what their kids were learning or doing at school. A couple days before the open day we made invites and put them on seesaw for our parents to see. Our parents saw lots of our work and were really pleased with it. Unfortunately we could not get any photos of the day.

PROJECT ISLAND SONG!

n Thursday twenty of the year fives & twenty of the year sixes participated in the Project Island Song to learn about why we should keep the island pest-free. Project Island Song is a place where kids can learn more about pest, planting trees & why they are important. There are seven pest-free islands, we went to the biggest one, it’s called Urupukapuka island & we also went to Cable bay which was on the island. It was super fun because we got to plant trees, make rat traps & two of the groups got to make weta homes. My favorite part was when we were near the end because we got to go for a little walk & we heard & saw heaps of different native birds, I think we were really lucky because we got to see a Saddleback.

Quick Rip Tournament

On Tuesday the 11th of June the year 7 & 8’s went to compete in the Kerikeri quick rip tournament. We played three games. The first one being Kerikeri 2,  the second one was Rawene and third one was TKKM Kaikohe. What we did well was sharing the ball with each other but next time we need to learn to spread out and run on to the ball. We won the first 2 games and lost our last game. We think  we needed more practices so we are able to play to the best of abilities and maybe win more games in the future. We would like to thank the parents for all their help and their support that they showed on the day. Hopefully next time we get another chance at competing in another tournament.

Southern Cultural Festival

Last week the tuakana kapa haka roopu attended a Cultural Festival in Kawakawa. We practised for about two weeks before the actual festival started. We came up with four or five items to show to the other schools that attended the festival. We all enjoyed the festival performing to the other schools what we had been practising for. Here are some small videos and photos of what we performed on the day. Keep checking our class blog for more posts in the future. Ka kite.

The Great Marble Challenge

Last week in Te Ngahere we did a Marble Run Challenge. We had to build ramps with any random objects around the class with our groups. As well as building the ramp we learnt new things like variables and friction. Variables are very important throughout testing because any change that we made was a variable and something that needed to be consistently done. Also we learnt about friction. We learnt that rolling the marble on a table is a different surface than rolling it on the ground, because the mat has more friction so the ball can come to a complete stop but the table will let the ball roll until it falls off. Before test day we had to write a list of instructions to give to another group to build your ramp. The instructions had to be simple but easy to understand so they can build the ramp quickly and easily. In the end Missy and Anyah won the challenge and was given a big chocolate. I hope we do more experiments in the future relating to science and collaborating with others.

Authors vist

At Paihia  School we had the  amazing opportunity  to meet an amazing lady named Jennifer Somerville. We were learning about the importance of writing and understanding what it means. She said that “ I had to go through my writing just like you”. She is the author of these  stories The day dad blew up the cowshed, The new old truck, The eel hunt ,old truck and Uncle Allen stink leg. The facts that she had learnt before she came to talk with us was so interesting. She said that she had the different parts of the story everywhere,  but she had to put them in order and the inspired me to do better pieces of writing. In the story Eel hunt she said that her brother got stranded in a dead cow and that it happened in real life. All her stories are based on real moments of time. What I enjoyed is she added detailed words in her book so that the people would get hooked into the story. What I think that I could do better is ask more interesting questions and pay attention in to the writing more. This was good for our class to learn about. Thank you  Jennifer Somervell for offering to explain her journey to us and for taking time to teach us the importance of writing.

Friday was a very sad day because Shirley, our librarian was leaving. The day before, we made feathers and wrote a note on the back of them. Miss Pou glued them onto a piece of cardboard and made a feather type wall. On Friday we all sat down in the whare waiting for the command. We all stood up and sang a waiata and sat back down. Miss Simmons firstly said her speech trying not to cry.  Some of the other teachers said there speeches and gave Shirley some gifts, some adults even said something to shirley. There were to girls who came up and had there own speech. When the day was over we all ran to Shirley and gave her a hug and a squeeze. She said she will come back to visit and keep the library in shape. I can’t wait until she visits again.

Math DLO

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to double and half hard multiplication problems e.g 18 x 7. Do not do doubling and halving on basic facts you should know them. After we had completed a practice sheet we had to plan and create a math DLO. For this DLO we had to explain it clear so everyone could understand the DLO. Some of my DLO had arrays because they helped us work out the problem if we couldn’t quite figure the equation out and it also made it clear to understand, but some of it was writing and I had to fix it up a few times until I made it better and I still am. We also had to create another DLO that was trebling and thirding. The point of doubling and halving, trebling and thirding was it made the hard equation easy. Something I enjoyed about this whole strategy was when we had to fill out the practice activity. I think I need to improve making the DLO’s, and speed up making my DLO’s. I think I did the practice sheets well and planning of my DLO.

Rararanga Matahiko

Kia ora, recently the year sixes had the amazing opportunity to participate in the Rararanga Matahiko program sponsored by the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. This is a program that helps young kids like you learn about the history of New Zealand and also be able to use different technology. On the first day we split in half, half went for a hikoi and explored the treaty grounds and te ngahere. The rest stayed and had a tutu with heaps of cool stuff like Virtual reality, Green screen, Stop motion, Paint 3D, SculptGL, Tinkercad & coding with robots. On the second day we started to create our movie. We all had to make a tree and hoe using Tinkercad. Then we used Paint 3D to create a person that represents us and some animals for te Ngahere. Next we used SculptGl to make a pou to represent our whanau. on our last day our teachers started to put all our learning together in a Virtual Reality world, they made te Ngahere & te Moana with the different tools in the app tilt brush. They added all of the trees, people, animals, plants, pou, hoe and waka in to the world for our movie.

Doubling and Halving

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about doubling and halving. The reason why we learnt this strategies is to simplify a big multiplication problems. I think what I did well was understanding how to use the strategies to solve a big multiplication problems. Lately we’ve been working on our math DLO, to explain why we using this strategies, how we work it out, and explain what this strategies is all about. I always enjoyed learning new strategy, but i was struggling to create the math DLO. I hope i can do better at finishing or creating DLO in the future.

maths DLO

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about using doubling and halving. By using doubling and halving it simplifies big multiplication problems for example 14x5 if you halve 14 and get 7 then double 5 and get 10 so 7x10 = 70.

This week we had to make a maths DLO to explain and to show why we use this strategy and how it works.
I think i did well showing of how it works I enjoyed making the DLO because every time you forget or don’t remember how to use the strategy you can look back at the DLO you made and remember how to use it. I could do better with having less words in my DLO

Sea cleaners!

On the 12th of March the sea cleaners came to see us. We learnt that the great pacific garbage patch is so deep that  they can not measure it, we also learnt that a couple years ago they found a turtle with 267 pieces of plastic in side of its stomach. Apart that was really cool was when we watched the video they made about people cleaning the beach and the ocean, coming back with lots of rubbish bags on their boats. We will pick up the rubbish even if it was not ours as it is being kind to our world.👍

Robett

On Monday, a guy named Robett came to Paihia School to talk to Te Ngahere about “Saying yes to success”.  He was traveling all around New Zealand to talk to high schools about his life and how he became a successful man. He explained to us how hard his life was growing up and how he didn't have much. My favourite saying from him was that “You don’t have be smart in school or have the best grades to be successful”.   His message to us was if you hang out with people that make bad choices or are negative people you could have a tough life. But if you choose to hang out with people that make good choices and are positive people there is a big chance that you will have a great life and be successful. I really enjoyed Robett visiting and inspiring us to work hard and keep pushing to what we want to achieve.

Ki O Rahi

Last week on Friday the year 7&8’s competed in a Ki O Rahi tournament in Kaikohe. We played
three games losing one game and winning two. Our first game was against Kaikohe Intermediate. The score was 11 - 12 beating them by one. Our second game was against Kaikohe Christian School. They were hard to beat losing by one point. The score was 11 - 12. Our last game was against Matehitehi winning by one again. I'm not sure what the score was but we beat them by one. Ki O Rahi was fun that day because our team were able to work together and learn new tactics and strategies. Next time our team could work on our passing and throwing skills so next time we are ready to play strategically and better.

Technology

Last week on Wednesday the yr 7&8 s had technology at Morewa. The year 7 s did woodwork and the yr 8 s did cooking. In cooking we made lasagne just before we made it we had to fill out a sheet that had our 5 things we needed to make the lasagne like. After we filled out the sheet we started cooking our divine lasagne. We had to pick five vegetables to put in our lasagne but then the teacher picked two for us so we only had to pick three. It took us until lunch eating time to finish it. So at lunch instead of lunch we had lasagne me and Ricardo's lasagne was very tasty. Sadly we had to take some home so it turned out we couldn’t have a great feast with just lasagne. During morning tea and lunch we got to play on Morewa school’s playground which was really fun. After lunch we had to use one word to describe our lasagne the word i used was exquisite. I enjoyed making the delicious lasagne. But  I think we could have added a bit more salt to the mince.

Technology

In Te Ngahere we went to technology at Moerewa School. The year 7’s went to woodwork and metalwork while the year 8’s cooked lasagne. We had three tests in woodwork, one about safety, one about how well we listened, and the last one about hand tools. After we finished the tests we got to use the tools and see what we could do with them. The part I enjoyed the most was sawing a piece of wood and making it into a wood hook like maui’s hook with a coping saw which was a hand tool which was small but not small then it had a handle on top of the saw, then on the bottom of the handle there was a saw it kind of looked like a semi circle. I also think I could try using the power tools more like the power drill which had a massive drill on it as it says in the name but you had to have chuck key for the chuck. The chuck was a metal part where you got a key and unlocked it I wasn’t quite sure what unlocking it did.

Technology

In Te Ngahere the year 7&8’s  went to Moerewa School for technology. The year 8’s got to do cooking. We made a lasagne with 5 different types of vegetables, some mince, cheese and other ingredients. First we got into pairs, and chose a table. Then the teacher explained what to do. After that we got to start our cooking lesson. I really liked the final taste of my lasagne. It was yum. My favorite part was when we get to try our lasagne. I hope I can make some  more in the future.

Marshmallow Catapults

In Te Ngahere last week 1  we made marshmallow catapults which I found really fun. We had to make a catapult with skewers, marshmallows,a bit of masking tape and 2 spoons (only for our group). We also had to make sure it shot a marshmallow. At the end when we all finished making the catapult we did a class challenge to see which catapult the furthest. We all had a lot of fun but we could of tested it less so the marshmallows didn't break.

Marshmallow catapult

In Te Ngahere we made Marshmallow catapults. We were put in groups my group was Aj, Ricardo, Taliesha and me. Every group got given limited items; they were 12 skewers, 9 marshmallows, 2 rubber bands, a spoon and unlimited masking tape. The reason we built these was to see who’s catapult fired furthest. The part I enjoyed the most was the competition at the end of the 45 minutes of building the catapult.

Swim safe

In Te Ngahere we had a swim safe lesson with Whaea Tracey but we had to put everything we knew together. The activities were chucking out a rope and we had to make sure they caught it and the person who threw it had to tell them what to do, there was also the huddle and lastly the chain. A lot of us forgot our togs and we had to do the dry safe rope catch and throw. I enjoyed the dry safe rope catch and throw the most.
