Cool Cricket

Today a man called Neil came in and taught us how to play Cricket. When we got out we had to start batting. After a bit of batting we had to play a game of Speed Cricket we were feilding first and I was the  backstop. I was the best player that played backstop in our team. Then when it was my teams turn to bat I was the first one up. We changed positions 6 times. The other team beat us by only one point.

Bay Of Islands College.

Last week the year 8 students of Te Ngahere had a choice to go to Bay Of Islands College for orientation day. I went to my cousins house so that we could walk down to the college. When we got there we had to all meet in the library. We got to met the principal and he showed us to our classes that we had. My three favourite classes art, wood work and P.E. I liked art because we got to paint our art work and we didn't get told what colours to paint it we could just do whatever. I also liked woodwork and P.E because when we were doing wood work we got to draw our own designs. In P.E we got split into groups and got put with year 13 students. They taught us skills about volleyball. We got taught how to hit the ball up properly and how to hit the ball up if it's close to the ground. Over all I had an amazing day and would love to go again. Fantastic Cricket

In Te Ngahere we did cricket with Neil our coach. At the start  we had to partner up with someone and practice hitting the ball and catching the ball. We all got in two teams, one team was bating  and the other team is out on the field to catch the ball the team bating have 3 bats if we catch the ball they are down 1 bat if all 3 bats get out we switch side. Our team won by one point. And our coach said we were the best team in northland.

What a Blast art Is

In Te Ngahere we have been doing art. We have been doing art for so long i’m still on my practice sheet because it so hard. You start off with a practice sheet to get good a outline. Then you blend the colours on the picture. After you have practised the picture you go on to you real sheet where you do same except the picture is bigger. It makes it even easier to do the outline even blending is easy because the shapes are bigger.

A Basic Lesson On Cricket

On Wednesday in Te Ngahere we got the privilege to be given a lesson on the basics of cricket by an instructor whose name was Neil. First Neil taught us how we should hold our cricket bat which was to put both of your hands into a V shape then grip the handle of the bat.  He also taught us a cricket  stance which was to stand with your feet apart and one of your feet pointing to where you want your ball to go. After this we tried some drills which required us to get into pairs and practice batting the ball. Next we got to play a game of speed cricket. Speed cricket is just like normal cricket except it’s a lot faster. When we started cricket I was really hesitant to play because i’ve never even played cricket before but i’m grateful I tried because it ended up being a lot of fun.

Would you consider yourself a cricket rookie or expert?

A Quick Guide To T-Shaped Literacy

This week in Te Ngahere we have been learning about t-shaped literacy.   For the first t-shape we were given various pictures and were tasked  to describe what feeling/mood we could feel when we looked at that picture. Along with doing that we needed to construct a small paragraph that related to what we thought could happen next. When we started our first t-shape I thought it was going to be extremely difficult because i’ve never tried any work related to mood/atmosphere but once I used what I already knew it was a lot easier.

Do you have a book or song that puts you in a positive mood/atmosphere?

Mind-Blowing Facts About Te Reo Maori weather report

In Te Ngahere this week we have been learning to read and make a Te Reo Maori weather report. In class we had to make a script first to make sure that our Maori words were correct, after that we were allowed to then make an animation with the words that we put in our script then we show our learning with a screencastify over it. I enjoyed this because it was fun and easy to do. There was nothing I didn’t enjoy about it. The thing that I found hard was making sure that the maori words meant the same thing as the english words, so next time I will try harder. This is our script we made.

Tricky Tricky Algebra

Kia Ora, last week in Te Ngahere in Pangarau we were learning how to do algebra. At first I wasn't very comfortable with this type of math because I hadn't worked with it before. There were letters like N and B that was put in front of the equation. When we looked at these letters we thought that they meant something but they really didn’t. We learnt  how to do a trick but in maths: think of a number , multiply it but 2, take away 5 now half your answer. Many people mistake this type of algebra for magic. We also learnt how to use a number sequence and how to make sure that these would work together perfectly.

What I did well is try to learn how to and not give up. What I could do better is co-opertate more. Have you ever learned algebra ?

Mahi Toi

This week in Te Ngahere we have been finishing our calendar artwork from last term. Every year we do Calendar Art to give to our family. We have been focusing on drawing continuous lines and shading. After we finished our practices art than we got a big piece of paper and had to trace out the outline. Once we trace out the outline we than get to colour it in using a fading technique. After we have done that we then have to outline the artwork in a black vivid to make the drawing stand out. One thing that I found hard about drawing the calendar art was having to draw a continuous line. Have you done Calendar Art before?

Do You Know How to Use Weather Words?

This week in Te Ngahere we have been working on weather forecasts in Te Reo. We had to get into a group of 2-3 and come up with a script that was all in Te Reo Maori. The script had to include 6 place names and we had to come up with the weather forecast for those six places we chose. We also had to introduce ourselves. My group chose Paihia, Auckland, Whangarei, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown as our places. I found it hard to remember what the weather in Maori was but once I remembered it was easy.Have you ever made a weather forecast?

Amazing Athletics

Kia ora in Te Ngahere we have been doing amazing athletics.

The activities we have been doing are long jump, high jump, shot put, sprints/relays and discus.

The first day of athletics I was meant to be doing long jump but we had to play flies because the long jump pit hadn’t been built.

I got into the last four people but got out because I missed the next step by a little bit.

I really enjoy doing athletics because i’m getting faster and better at the activities.

Here is the long jump success criteria

My Holiday

Last week during the holidays I did a lot of things like, going to town, friends houses, beaches and out to dinner. During the holidays I had a lot of fun hanging out with my friends and catching up with my family. Me and my friend also blew up 300+ balloons and hung out in town we did a lot of stuff in town but we mainly hung out on the wharf and at the library. When we were at the library we usually just talk and listen to music.  What did you do in the holidays?

Panui

This week in Te Ngahere we have been focusing on  how authors use words or phrases to create an emotional response. We had to choose an emotion, place, a way of walking, a colour, sound, smell, time of day and the weather. After we chose them we had to copy a paragraph and put the words we chose into the paragraph to make it make sense. I liked that we got to choose some of the words like the emotion and what time of day it was and things like that instead of having to just write what the teachers said. Have you ever done this before?
