(Gail) Energize healthy eat talk

This week at Paihia school a lady named Whaea Gina came to talk to us about the four healthy food groups. The first food group she talked about was dairy. Dairy products are like cheese and cream. Dairy helps you get the calcium that your bones need to grow big and strong. If you are lactose intolerant stores sell other milk like almond that does not contain cow milk . The next food group she talked about was fruits and veggies. Fruits and veggies help you stay strong because they contain vitamins and minerals that help your skin stay clean and also help you grow big and strong. The third food group she talked about was protein. Meat is high source of protein that is why meat is healthy. Some meat are unhealthy that is why more people are resorting to becoming vegans. The last food group we got to hear about was grain food that some people called brain food. Brain food includes wheat like weetbix and bread. Grain food is healthy for you because they contain high sources of fibre B, vitamins and minerals. Grains also helps to reduce your blood cholesterols which gives you a lower risk of having a heart attack. I could really use a lot of the information we learnt to help eat better and help other kids to eat healthier and exercise.

The best work we've ever done.

Kia ora. This week at Paihia School we had a ki o rahi tournament for the year 5’s, 6’s, 7’s and 8’s. This years ki o rahi tournament was held at Simpson park in Moerewa. There was 16 teams ready to play ki o rahi including Paihia School. The first School we played against was Taipa School and our School lost to them. Our school won two games and lost two games. Finally it was time to get ready to see what teams are going on to the the semi finals. Our school made it to the semi finals. The team that we were playing for the semi finals was Taumarere we lost by ten points. What we could do better next time is spread out and share the ball. What we did good was playing as a team and working hard.

Ki-o-rahi tournament

Kia ora bloggers. On the 30th of October we had our Ki-o-rahi tournament. There was a year 5 and 6 team and a year 7 and 8 team. We travelled from Paihia to Morewa. The first game the year 5 and 6’s had lost 21-1 but only because they were playing a year 7 and 8 Ki-o-rahi team. On their second game they won 10-1. The third game they lost again. What they could of worked on is to spread out because they kept on following where the ball went and who it went to. Another reason why they needed to spread out is because when they all gathered up in one spot and the other team had the ball they would always give it to other players that weren’t surrounded with the other team. When they did that they would get a lot of points. Now here is the year 7 and 8 Ki-o-rahi tournament. The first game the year 7 and 8’s lost 6 - 3. The second and third game the year 7 and 8’s won 8 - 0 and 9 - 3. After that game they were finished the first tournament. Whaea K.C said that they would go straight through to the semi finals because they didn’t have enough time for the quarter finals. The year 7 and 8 Ki-o-rahi team made it into the semi finals and were so proud. Unfortunately they lost 13 - 6 but they had fun and tried their best.
