Japan
Did you know that Japan has at least 6,852 islands overall? In this information report I am going to be stating some facts about the historic events, architectural styles, natural disasters, and sports in Japan.
Architecture
Japan has interesting ways to build different buildings. Many structure’s from back in the day were made from wood and to make huts and villages. Back before we were born Japanese people use to make castles to protect their king or leader and protect themselves from enemies. Also during the Edo era the samurai were meant to protect and surround the castles and villages of their own.
Historic Events
On August 6th, 1945 Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing took place in Japan. Another name for Hiroshima is Little Boy. It was a gun type bomb with about thirteen kilotons of force and explosion power. Hiroshima was home to about 280,000 - 290,000 people and about 43,000 soldiers at the time. But sadly at the time between 90,00 and 166,000 people were declared dead in the time of 4 months. Three days after America dropped the Hiroshima bomb. America bombed Nagasaki on August 9th. The bomb was a device also known as Fat Man. On the day of the bombing 263,000 people were in the Nagasaki bombing. Also between 40,000 - 75,000 people were killed. During the Nagasaki bombing another 60,000 people suffered severe injuries. The total of deaths in Nagasaki would be about 80,000.
Natural Disasters
Japan is one that have several natural disasters. In 1995 it was reported that The Sakurajima Volcano to have erupted 200 times. The Sakurajima Volcano erupted around late October and Early November. The Hanshin Earthquake took place in Japan on January 17th Tuesday 1995. The earthquake lasted 20 seconds and destroyed 150,000 buildings. The magnitude of the quake was 6.8. The quake killed over 6,000 people and the quake made people either homeless or have severe injuries and in hospital. The 1993 Sea of Japan earthquake happened on 1993 May 16th. The earthquake lasted for a minute and measured about 7.8 magnitude earthquake. The earthquake killed 100 people. The tsunami struck through communities on the coast and the coast was damaged badly.
Sports
One of the sports that Japanese people play is Sumo wrestling. Sumo wrestling has been around in Japan for 1,500 years. Sumo wrestling tournaments take place in Tokyo, Nagoya and Fukuok. Sumo wrestling is a traditional sport too. Another sport that Japan participate in is Karate. It is one of the most famous martial arts styles. Karate first started in India.Chinese trainers brought the fighting styles and skills to Japan back around in the fourteenth century. Karate was never properly introduced to Japan until the twentieth century. But after WWII they changed the name and the characters so that it was translated to be called empty handed.
In Japan there is a lot of things to do and see. You can go to different places in Japan and look at all the interesting landmarks. You can participate in different sports in Japan. Try and avoid all disasters that happen if you want to go to Japan. The last activity you can do if you want to go to Japan is look at all the places in Japan where historic events took place.

Last week some students were lucky enough to try out Mrs G's green screen. They used their report writing and chose a background to suit. It was done very quickly so they did not have time to rehearse or learn what they were going to say. This was about the process not the product.

Matariki celebration
Last week it was Matariki. If you wanted to be there to see the Matariki stars you needed to wake up at six o’clock in the morning.
I woke up at six and went to Matariki. I saw Mr Halliday, Tarquin, Thomas and other friends. Then it was time to go to the beach. We went to Paihia beach where Alfresco is. Firstly we didn't see the stars so easy. They were covered with clouds so you could not see the Matariki stars. Then Whaea Becks had this app that could see through the clouds. after a while the Matariki stars appeared but you could only see six, because the 7th one was blurry. Then after awhile we went back to school and there was breakfast. if you wanted breakfast you needed give a gold coin, I gave 2$.
But I just had a toast and some oat biscuit from my bag.

Lily's Tree Research
On Wednesday we did some research about the plants we planted on Thursday so we would know where the plants grow best. I did my research on a plant called Reinga Lily. But we did have quite a few options like Te Kouka, Carex Secta Grass, Manuka, Koromiko, Harakeke and Puriri. Before I had started the research I didn’t even know what Reinga Lily was or the other names so I am glad I chose Reinga Lily because now I now nearly all about it and what a cool plant it is. Our WALT was to find information.

On Friday the best day of the week Te Ngahere made yummy vanillary vanilla icy ice cream! We had to work in partners it was Keekee and I, but first Te Ngahere had to all finish off our learning plans and the cool thing is that we all finished it on Friday.
Firstly we had to write our names on a small bag, and next we had put in 1 cup of creamy cream, two tablespoon of sweet sugar and to make it taste like vanillary vanilla we had to put half a teaspoon of vanilla essence.
Next we had to get a big bag a put 2 - 3 handfuls of icy ice, it made me feel like I had numb hands, I did but they were red like the sun. We also had to put 6 tablespoons of salt in the big bag of icy ice then we had to put the little bag of creamy cream and sweet sugar in the bag of ice Mrs Pou said make sure you close the bag properly or it will be an icy ice salty creamy cream, like what a kid in Te Ngahere did.
Then we had to go outside and shake and shake it. It was cold but Keekee and I were taking turns, we had to shake it for like 15 minutes. When we were finished Alexis and Brodi said we need to get the little bag out of the big bag and I put my hand in the icy ice salty salt and it stung my hand.
Last week on Friday Te Ngahere Made delicious Vanilla ice Cream, We all had to write a Recount about how we made it an what we used. We had to use a variety of measurements and ingredients. I was also Learning how to use the correct structure and use alliteration in my writing. We got to make the ice cream because we all got 100% on our learning plans. We had to work in partners it was Keekee and I. When we were finished we got to eat it and it was salty from the the bag that we put it in.

When Tim Tipene visited Paihia School we were excited. He told us about his childhood and he read us a book called Hinemoa Te Toa, That was funny when he would acted like the other people.
His message was: Everyone has a warrior inside them. I haven’t read his books but I am really looking forward to reading them. I think some of his books are called: The Warrior kids, Taming the Taniwha, Haere and Kura Toa.

The skin of the Tangelo is a sower sweet tace
As I bite into it and the juice squirts everywhere.
My learning in my Tangelo story I have been trying to put adjectives in my writing and I tried to make it make sense and use the 5 senses in my writing as well.
I learnt to use adjectives in my writing and I think I did it well with that.
My Tangelo
The Tangelo
The Tangelo felt hard, soft, bumpy and wrinkled with an orangery color. The Tangelo skin smelt sweet, smooth, strong and ripe. The Tangelo tasted nice, juicy and sweet. As I removed the peeling and took a bite the flesh squirted out and ran down my arms and I felt crushing in my mouth. I was focusing on how the tangelo felt like, taste, smelt,
My Apple
My juicy red apple...
I was looking at my red shiny apple,
It felt as cold as a ice cube.
I put my apple close to my ear,
I tried to peel it with longish nails.
It made a like a fizzing sound like a fizzy drink,
I gazed at my polished apple one more time.
I took a small bite like it was bitten by a mouse,
I took another bite and it was bigger.
I took a few more big bites,
all you can see was the brown and white seeds.
That was how my apple got gobbled up!
My Learning Map
I think I did well while doing my learning map because, I wrote what helps me and how much it helps me.

Tangelos
CRACK as I feel the delicious ingredients organising into my hands, as the juicy water drips into my hand making it into a swimming pool. It tasted like a magical fairy tale with juicy wet organic seeds. It sweet as a pie. WOW the sour flavour washing down my mouth, making my mouth numb. It sounds like a humongous wave about to fill my mouth with yummy flavours, it was really lumpy and bumpy around the outsides, it was sour as vinegar.
A couple of weeks ago Mrs Pou brought in some tangerines. We had to write about the 5 senses. What it looks like, what it feels like, what it sounds like, what it tastes like and what it smells like. We also had to describe our writing and do a onomatopoeia for the start of the story. Next time maybe I could you adjectives, adverbs and alliteration and find more about why there tangerines.
