Technology - Day 2

The Year 8 students are well on their way with their technology project. Three students (Xiavier, Pokai and Charlie) are cutting out mere as well as trying to sand down the edges until it's smooth and shaped. Even Whaea Shirley is getting on the act. Jazzmin is creating a necklace and Taimana is well on the way with her serving tray. Ryan probably has the most challenging design as he is creating a fighter jet.
Pizza Day
My Year 7 students learnt that a healthy eating plan using the Healthy Eating Pyramid, might mean eating more vegetables and fruit. So today they made a pizza from scratch. When I arrived in their class, they had already made the pizza base and they were selecting their ingredients, or chopping in up into small pieces.
At lunch time, most students ate their pizza, however some students saved theirs for tonight's tea.

Te Reo Maori

This week all students were placed in groups where they had to create a script that delivered the Success Criteria in Ka Mau Te Wehi Unit One.

Success Criteria:
1. Greet and respond
2. Ask who is their friend and answer.
3. Ask where they are from and answer.
4. Korero with confidence in a natural setting.

Here are the fantastic results.

Ki-o-rahi.

Today we had Whaea Leela Hauraki from Sporth Northland visit our school. In one hour we had to negotiate our rules and we had to learn to play this game using our 4 hoe; manaakitangi, kaha, whanaungatanga and respect. Whaea Leela also explained that we must awhi everyone, so that we don't put others down.
We had a great time and Miss Simeon will include Ki-o-rahi into our weekly timetable so that we will be ready for the tournament held in week 7.

Thank you Whaea Leela.

Technology, Day 1

Today Room 8 headed off to Moerewa School to learn about Food & Materials and Workshop. It was pleasing to see all students supporting each other (Manaakitanga) and doing our best (Kaha) while trying to get their pastry springy or figuring out what they are going to make in wood.
Our Life Kaupapa - Choosing Good Food.
Meet your child's technolgy teacher.
                 Mr Edwards                                                        Whaea Dot

Researching, Planning and Practising.
During term 1 our Year 8 will be working with Mr Edwards in the Workshop. Each student will research what they want to make, create a design for it, decide what materials they will make the project out of and of course make/build it. Good luck guys as you have 8 weeks in which to complete it in.

Ohh what to do with an apple? You strudel it. Our Year 7 students are in the Food and Materials room with Whaea Dot. Their first task was to make an apple strudel. This is no easy task. I walked into the lesson and my students were attempting to roll out their dough. I saw only one springy dough, good on you Iesha. So it really pays to follow the recipe.

...and once the dough was ready you placed the apple and brown sugar mixture onto the dough. Our Year 7 learnt to plait the side pastry strips, so that it looked like a traditional strudel.
Of course after the strudel was placed into the oven to bake, all the students had to participate in cleaning up.
